Class Descriptions
- Restorative Yoga
Journey into a healthier and happier daily life by releasing
physical and mental tension. Students are guided through simple warm
ups and modifications of basic yoga poses, supported
by the use of props and repetition. Fundamental yoga sequences are
taught that strengthens the many overlapping muscles surrounding the
spine, increases flexibility of joints, releases back discomfort,
works core abdominal muscles and increases lung capacity. Ideal for
students with limited range of motion who want to enjoy a fitness
program that is adaptable to their own body's needs and abilities.
Mat and Chair exercises only.
- YOGA 1: Learn principles and practices of
classic Hatha Yoga asanas honoring your own strength and limitations
resulting in increased balance, health, well being and
transformation. In this class, students will be guided through
floor, seated and standing postures that open vital energy centers.
Proper body alignment and flowing transition between poses are also
taught along with the use of breathing techniques, mudras (hand
gestures), mantras (sounds) and visualization. Beginner level
- YOGA 2: Continuation of Yoga 1. Combination of
Hatha/Ashtanga/Vinyasa poses allowing students to go deeper into
themselves working out physical, emotional and mental blocks.
Practice includes a variety of postures including standing and
balancing poses, hip openers, back bends, inversions, prolong and
flowing sequences. Intermediate and advance level.
- KUNDALINI "The Active Power:" This class is a
vigorous and powerful overall workout for students willing to take a
quantum leap in physical and mental conditioning. Sequences of poses
awaken the Kundalini energy that lies dormant at the base of the
spine increasing vitality and strength. Advance level.
- YOGA/PILATES FUSION: The science and art of
Hatha Yoga couples with Pilates method of body conditioning
resulting in strong and controlled graceful movements. Posture
sequences include Pilates mat work fused with yoga asanas and
pranayamas to connect body and mind. Intermediate and advance level.
- Kids YOGA: Give your child the opportunity to
explore creative movements leading to life enhancing skills
including improved concentration, coordination, flexibility,
balance, positive self-awareness and integrated body/mind
development. Age appropriate yoga postures, relaxation techniques,
and a wide variety of fun yoga activities for ages 5 to 10 will be
taught by Jul McCormick.
- Chair Yoga for Seniors with Early Mild Memory Loss:
Specialized instruction focusing on gentle active yoga
tailored to the needs of seniors especially for those experiencing
symptoms of memory loss. This practice is designed to offer the
great benefits of yoga that may enhance alertness, improve stamina,
decrease anxiety, calm the body/mind and increase mental clarity.
Chair yoga provides the opportunity to move safely and freely from
pose to pose maximizing blood flow to the brain and other body
systems. Limited enrollments to provide individualize attention to
participants. Nancy Galizewski is the class instructor.
